Songwriters Festival hits the mark
The fourth Kintyre Songwriters Festival managed to exceed all expectations, and was without a doubt the best year yet. With local talent including regulars such as David Fee, Emily Walker, Megan Hill, Medium High and newcomers 12 Past Midnight this year’s line-up was augmented by artists from around Scotland who appreciated the Songwriters unique atmosphere and attentive audience.
Amber Wilson, who played the Sunday night, interviewed in the influential music scene blog “The Pop Cop” said that the festival organisers “...really had it sussed... It was a fantastic gig with a great atmosphere".
The industry seminar, hosted by Dave Arcari on the Sunday afternoon was also a great success, attended by a large crowd of local artists who all gained first hand experience of how to "make it" in the music business.
This year’s festival also uncovered a fantastic new talent, Pol Stevenson, who just happened to be down visiting friends and performed the open mic session which led to him being on the main bill on the Saturday night!
It’s testament to the ideals of the festival that artists such as Amber, Robin Adams, Emily-Rose, Dave Arcari, Adriana Spina and Ivan Drever – all hugely successful artists in their own right – have asked when they can come back and play.
As always, the Kintyre Songwriters Festival aims first and foremost to promote the local songwriting talent in Kintyre so we’re always looking forward to hearing from new – or old! – musicians who haven’t been in touch yet.
As a performer, I was made to feel very welcome
