2014

The 7th Kintyre Songwriters festival looks like being a real treat for music fans in Campbeltown with some of the hottest names in Scottish music performing alongside local talent.

Friday night is rock night in Whisky Macs and features well-known local acts A New Hope, Medium High, The Twisted Melons, newcomers Papa Alpha 28 and many more.

Saturday headliner is Coatbridge singer-songwriter Pete MacLeod who was the first signing to Alan McGee's new 359 Music record label. McGee, who discovered Oasis, has tipped Pete for the top and touring Europe with Paul Weller has cemented his reputation. Pete is joined by 16 year old rising folk-pop star Zoe Bestel who will be performing tracks from her debut album, and Aberdeen-based indie-folkster CS Buchan. The lineup is completed by regular local performers like Adam Fortune, Gullion, The Wild Sarachs and many more.

Better known as singer and main songwriter in internationally successful scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit, Scott Hutchison recently recorded his forthcoming debut solo album on Mull. Now based in Los Angeles, Scott will be performing tracks from his new album alongside Frightened Rabbit classics on Sunday night. Support for Scott comes from Celtic Connections standout Siobhan Wilson, Orange unsigned winner Tommy Reilly and Sophie Rodgers. Locals include The Gilchristians, Bob Ross Appreciation Society and David Fee.

Not only will we be organising an open mic session on the Saturday, we will also be running another session on the Sunday, so anyone that wants to take part in the unique atmosphere of the festival is more than welcome to come along and perform.

We will also be hosting two industry seminars over the weekend - entry is free, and for anyone with an interest in the music business, these are opportunities not to be missed.
